Vettaiyan Box Office Collection Day 9: Rajinikanth's latest release has entered its second weekend. The investigative action drama saw a steady decline in earnings throughout its first week. According to trade website Sacnilk, the film's total domestic collection after nine days exceeds ₹124 crore nett. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan premiered in theaters on October 10 and managed to surpass ₹100 crore during its four-day extended opening weekend. However, ticket sales dropped significantly as the weekdays progressed, resulting in ongoing challenges at the box office.

Vettaiyan Box Office Report

Despite a strong opening, the action crime drama Vettaiyan, starring Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, has encountered difficulties entering its first weekdays. After nine days, the film's total domestic collection stands at approximately ₹124.80 crore, according to early estimates, with a week one total of ₹122.15 crore. The box office figures show a significant decline throughout the week, including a drop of 74.89% on Monday.

On Friday, October 18, 2024, Vettaiyan recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 17.15%, with morning shows at 12.12%, afternoon shows at 14.61%, evening shows at 18.32%, and night shows at 23.54%. The Hindi version, Vettaiyan The Hunter, had a lower occupancy of 7.38% on the same day. It remains to be seen if Rajinikanth's film can recover from this slump.

About Vettaiyan

The makers of Vettaiyan are considering a prequel to the film. In a recent media interaction in Hyderabad, director Gnanavel expressed his deep inspiration from the topic of police encounter killings and his desire to explore it further in the prequel. He mentioned that he aims to delve into Athiyan's journey, adding complexity to the existing narrative. Gnanavel noted that the subject of encounter killings has always resonated with him, as he finds the ethical implications of these incidents—whether justified or fabricated—particularly compelling. Vettaiyan, produced by Subaskaran Allirajah's Lyca Productions, was released on October 10.

The film also features Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan and Ritika Singh. It revolves around a drug trade discovered by a government school teacher, which leads to an investigation by a police officer known for his unorthodox methods. As the officer digs deeper, he uncovers a complex web of additional crimes tied to the drug trade.

Following its theatrical run, the film will be available for streaming on Prime Video, which has acquired the digital rights for ₹90 crore. The release date for the streaming version will be announced after the film's box office performance stabilises.
