Vashu Bhagnani, head of Pooja Entertainment, has accused Netflix India of allegedly cheating him of ₹47.37 crore. In a recent interview with The Economic Times, Bhagnani claimed that he has not received the payment he is owed. However, Netflix has denied these allegations and claims that it is actually Bhagnani’s production house that owes them money.

According to Bhagnani, Netflix allegedly conspired against the rights of three films from his production house: Hero No. 1, Mission Raniganj and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. He has filed a complaint against Los Gatos Production Services India, which handles Netflix's content investments in India, as well as Zoo Digital India and some executives involved in the dispute. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has also summoned the production services firm for an inquiry.

In response to Bhagnani’s claims, Netflix issued a statement stating that the accusations are baseless. According to Netflix, it is Pooja Entertainment that owes them money. The platform also emphasized its long-standing collaboration with India’s creative community and assured that it is working with the authorities to resolve the matter. Reports also suggest that Netflix has filed a civil dispute against Pooja Entertainment for non-payment.

This isn’t the first controversy Bhagnani has faced recently. After the failure of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Bhagnani was accused by members of the film crew of not paying their dues. The film’s director, Ali Abbas Zafar, also alleged that Bhagnani still owes him Rs 7.30 crore. In turn, Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky Bhagnani, who co-manages Pooja Entertainment, filed complaints against Zafar, accusing him of siphoning Rs 9.50 crore in subsidy funds obtained from Abu Dhabi authorities. They also accused Zafar of extortion, coercion and defamation. This ongoing legal battle between the Bhagnanis and Netflix has now added another chapter to the controversies surrounding the production house.
