Deepika Padukone's fans have received a heartbreaking announcement from production company Vyjayanthi Movies. The actor will not appear in the follow-up to Kalki 2898 AD. A recent report claimed that her demands for more money and fewer working hours were what annoyed the producers. Nag Ashwin is the writer and director of the mythical science fiction movie Kalki 2898 AD. Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan are among the ensemble cast members of the movie. Kalki is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharata and takes place in a dystopian society in 2898 AD.
Deepika Padukone was calling for a 25% increase in her pay for working a 7-hour shift. The actor reportedly refused to budge when the producers attempted to discuss these two demands with her, according to a Bollywood Hungama report. "That’s not all, she put her foot down on shooting for just 7 hours a day. Given that Kalki 2898 AD is a VFX heavy film, such short shoots was likely to shoot up the budget by a reasonable amount. The producers were willing to provide a luxury vanity to Deepika for rest, in return of longer shoot hours, but she refused. They also tried to negotiate finances, given that even Prabhas had not asked for an increment in fees," read the report.

The report further revealed that Deepika Padukone travels with 25 people on the sets and demands five star accomodations. "Deepika’s team is a big one with almost 25 people travelling with her on the sets. They demanded a five-star accommodation and reimbursement for food through the shoot for her entourage. Why should the producers pay for the stay and food of an actor, over and above the fees? This is an issue that a lot of Hindi producers also face."
Deepika Padukone played SUM-80, also known as Sumathi, Kalki's foretold mother and a Project K lab participant. When she filmed for the Prabhas film, she was expecting a child.
For those who are unaware, Deepika Padukone left co-star Prabhas' Spirit a few months ago, citing similar problems. There had been discussions earlier for Deepika to play the lead in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's next action movie. After she reportedly left the project, there was conjecture that she had asked for an 8-hour workday, a cut of the movie's earnings, and the refusal to speak in Telugu throughout her dialogue. The director reportedly did not approve of these demands. Triptii Dimri eventually took her place.
