Priyanka Chopra has never been the one to let go of a strong female character in a movie, even if the role of small. The actress has played the heroine, villain, sensual diva, as well as a young woman on the autism spectrum in various Bollywood movies and always managed to keep the viewers hooked to her on the big screen. On Monday, Priyanka Chopra took to Instagram to share a nostalgic throwback to her 2009 film Kaminey, revealing the surprising backstory behind her casting in what she now calls a "turning point" in her career.
In a detailed caption, Priyanka Chopra recounted how the role of Sweety Bhope was offered to her while she was filming Dostana in Miami, Florida. The actress admitted to being initially surprised to see a missed call from director Vishal Bhardwaj, whom she had long wanted to work with but believed would not cast her due to her 'commercial image' at the time.
"He said he'd like to come see me, and he did. To Miami," Priyanka Chopra wrote, recalling their meeting. The actress expressed her initial hesitation, noting that the part had "approximately 8 scenes." However, she revealed that Bhardwaj’s convinced her saying—"With us working on it, it will end up being so much more. Trust me."

Priyanka Chopra's gamble paid off, as she credits the film for teaching her how to "research, prepare and then surrender to the part." She also praised her co-star Shahid Kapoor's "sensational" dual role and the "unforgettable" performance of Amol Gupte. The actress also disclosed that Bhardwaj had promised to create something "incredible" for her in appreciation for taking on the part. True to his word, the two collaborated again a few years later on the critically acclaimed film 7 Khoon Maaf.

This isn't the first time Priyanka Chopra has worked with a director just to be a part of his movie. In 2013, PeeCee performed the iconic song Ram Chahe Leela from the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial romantic drama Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela. She recalled that it was a 'complicated decision' to be a part of the film just for the song and revealed how she ended up making that decision.
