Aamir Khan led Dhoom 3, which grossed Rs 558 crores globally, also starred Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Jackie Shroff in significant parts. The Dhoom series were renowned for its high-tech robberies and slick action. However, third part's poor premise and storyline drew criticism from critics and audience alike. Now, almost a decade later Aamir Khan state that Dhoom 3 could have been a lot better.

Aamir Khan further revealed in an interview with Mashable India's The Bombay Journey that the original screenplay featured one more character whose role would have added emotional depth to Abhishek Bachchan's portion in Dhoom 3. "Abhishek ki biwi, jo phele do part mein thi, woh iss mein bhi hone wali thi," he said. For those who are unfamiliar with the Dhoom franchise, Rimi Sen portrayed Abhishek's Bengali wife Sweety.

Aamir Khan disclosed the original plot of the movie, which begins with the divorce of Jai and Sweety. She says Jai doesn't give her time because he is so focused on his work. Jai persuades her to give him one final chance, and they plan to leave for their upcoming honeymoon before she finalises their divorce. "Original story mein jab Abhishek honeymoon ke liye nikalta hai, tab usse commissioner ka call aata hai ki 'naya case aaya hai, aur tumhe Chicago jaana padega. So that's how he convinced Rimi to come with him to Chicago, and crack the case as well," Sitaare Zameen Par actor shared. 

Aamir Khan stated that the audience didn't resonate with Abhishek Bachchan's portrayal because his character lacked an emotional anchor with Rimi's absence. He added, "Mera character ki backstory hai. I want to avenge my father's death, and in the original version, Abhishek ko apna ghar bhi bachana tha, and duty bhi nibhani thi. Second half mein Rimi khudh Abhishek ko kehti hai ki Mumbai tab aana, jab yeh case crack kar loge. Yeh kahani agar hoti, toh aur maza aata. Comedy bhi hoti and ek emotional anchor bhi hota."

In order to outsmart the authorities and carry out intricate crimes, Sahir, assisted by his twin brother Samar, uses his acrobatic and magical abilities. The distinction between hero and villain becomes hazy in the movie's climactic showdown, as Sahir's true identity and motivations were exposed.
