Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, widely known for his action-packed roles in movies like Rowdy Rathore, Holiday, and Kesari, has taken a meaningful step to support the stunt artist community. After a recent tragedy involving a stuntman’s death during a film shoot, Akshay has arranged insurance coverage for nearly 650 stuntmen and stuntwomen across India. This move comes at a time when the industry is under pressure to improve safety standards for stunt professionals, many of whom risk their lives performing dangerous sequences on movie sets with little protection or support.
The initiative follows a heartbreaking incident that took place on 13th July on the sets of the Tamil movie Vettuvam, directed by Pa Ranjith and starring Arya. Experienced stuntman SM Raju was performing a high-risk car stunt when things went terribly wrong. A video from the shoot has since surfaced online. It shows Raju inside a car that hits a ramp, loses control, flips several times in the air, and lands on its front. At first, the crew didn’t understand how serious the accident was. But once they reached the vehicle, they found Raju critically injured. Unfortunately, he passed away on the spot, even before any medical help could be provided.

Meanwhile reacting to the tragic incident and growing concern about safety on film sets, Akshay Kumar came forward to offer real help. He has personally ensured that around 650 to 700 stunt professionals are now covered under an insurance policy.
Stunt coordinator Vikram Singh Dahiya, known for his work in Gunjan Saxena, Antim, OMG 2, and upcoming films Dhadak 2 and Jigra, confirmed the development. “Thanks to Akshay sir, many of us are now covered. Whether an injury happens on set or off it, the policy offers cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 5 to Rs 5.5 lakh,” he shared.
