Anupam Kher’s directorial venture Tanvi The Great is about a 21-year-old autistic girl who lives with her mother and grandfather. She takes inspiration from her deceased father, Captain Samar Raina, an Indian Army officer who dreamed of saluting the flag at Siachen Glacier. Tanvi decides to follow in her father’s footsteps and join the army to fulfil his dreams.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently watched the movie and announced it tax-free in the state. CM Yadav was received by a team of delegates and Anupam Kher himself at the special screening. Debutant actor Shubhangi Dutta, who played a key role in the film, was also present at the screening. The CM tweeted, "Today in Bhopal, I got the opportunity to watch his film Tanvi The Great with famous actor and director Anupam Kher. I announce to make the film tax-free in Madhya Pradesh."

Mohan Yadav also praised the film and wrote, "This touching film, dedicated to the struggles, determination, and dreams of an autistic girl, inspires people to be more sensitive, humane, and compassionate towards such special children. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Shri Kher ji and his entire team for this wonderful film."

 

Reacting to this, actor and director Anupam Kher also posted a tweet on his X account. He wrote, “Respected Chief Minister Ji! Today in Bhopal, I first had the privilege of meeting you at your residence! Thereafter, it is our great fortune that you came to watch our film #TanviTheGreat in the theater! Not only did you appreciate our film, but seeing the spirit of our film, you also declared it TAX FREE! This reflects your special sensitivity towards social issues and the armed forces. Once again, heartfelt thanks to you, your cabinet, and other staff! Jai Hind!”

Tanvi The Great was released in cinemas on July 18, 2025, with a brilliant star cast of Shubhangi Dutt in the titular role of Tanvi, and Anupam Kher as Colonel Pratap Raina, her grandfather. The film also features notable actors like Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swamy, Pallavi Joshi, and Karan Tacker.
