Ranbir Kapoor will next be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Bollywood project titled Ramayana, which is scheduled for a 2026 release. He will portray the role of Lord Ram opposite actress Sai Pallavi, who will be seen as Sita. Not many people know, but Ranbir Kapoor’s casting for Ramayana has an interesting backstory to it. Recently, director Anurag Basu revealed that Ranbir was faced with a challenge, as the actor was supposed to choose between Ramayana and a biopic of an iconic singer.

Anurag Basu, during an interview with BBC News, revealed that Ranbir Kapoor struggled to choose between Ramayana and Kishore Kumar’s biopic. The director stated that it was a tough choice for the actor to choose between the two projects and said that in his opinion, he made the right choice. “Ranbir ke paas choice tha life mein. Aur bechare ke paas wo choice itna mushkil tha uske liye,” he added.

The director also expressed his desire to collaborate with the actor once again. Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor joined hands for Barfi and Jagga Jasoos. Sharing his wish to work with the Sanju actor, he said, “Haa hopefully. Hum dono toh koshish karte hi rehte hain. Ho nahi raha hai. Woh bhi kar raha hai kaafi saari filmein. (Yes, hopefully. Both of us keep trying, but it’s just not happening. He’s also working on quite a few movies)."

Anurag Basu, who was slated to direct Kishore Kumar’s biopic, has now offered the role to Aamir Khan, as per a report in Pinkvilla. They have reportedly met four to five times so far to discuss the movie, and the actor is fascinated with the director’s vision.

When asked about considering Mr Perfectionist for his upcoming project, Anurag Basu didn’t mention much. He told Mid-Day, “Until everything is finalised and the contract is signed, I don’t think I should speak on it. This project has seen many ups and downs over the years. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it happens this time and I go on set with the story, which I’ve been trying to tell for the last decade. I won’t jinx it by speaking about it."
