Music maestro AR Rahman recently found himself at the centre of controversy. His recent remarks about alleged ‘communal’ bias in the Hindi film industry, made during an interview, went viral. The statement sparked a debate online and led to harsh backlash. Amid the controversy, the Oscar-winning music composer issued a statement through a video message, stating his intention was not to cause pain. After his clarification, he received support from veteran actor Paresh Rawal, who called AR Rahman a pride of our country.

On Sunday, Paresh Rawal took to X and reacted to the video of AR Rahman’s clarification about his controversial remarks. Showing his support for music maestro, the actor wrote, “We love you sir. You are our pride."

AR Rahman Clarifies His 'Communal Bias' Remarks

AR Rahman shared a video after his recent remarks about the industry in an interview with BBC Asian Network sparked criticism. In the video message, the music composer said, “Music has been always been my way of connecting, celebrating and honouring our culture. India is my inspiration, my teacher, and my home. I understand that intentions can sometimes be misunderstood, but my purpose has always been to uplift, honour, and serve through music. I have never wished to cause pain, and I hope my sincerity is felt."

He added, "I feel blessed to be Indian, which enables to create a space which always allows freedom of expression and celebrates multicultural voices."

What Did AR Rahman Say?

AR Rahman recently shared how his work in the Hindi cinema industry has slowed down in recent years during a recent interview with the BBC Network.

His controversial statement read, "Maybe I never get to know of this; maybe it was concealed by God but I didn’t feel any of this. Maybe in the past eight years because a power shift has happened and people who are not creative have the power now. It might be a communal thing also… but it is not in my face. It comes to me as Chinese whispers that they booked you but the music company went ahead and hired their 5 composers. I say good, I have more time to chill with my family. I am not in search for work. I don’t want to go in search for work. I want work to come to me; my sincerity to earn work. Whatever I deserve, I get.”

On the work front, AR Rahman has composed music for Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana Part 1 starring Ranbir Kapoor.
