Born in 1933 into the classic Mangeshkar musical dynasty, Asha Bhosle’s journey was one of both immense artistry and significant personal challenge. While she lived in the shadow of her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle successfully carved out a unique space for herself. Initially typecast as a singer for cabaret and item numbers, she eventually showcased her incredible range by performing sublime ghazals in films like Umrao Jaan. Apart from Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle has three other siblings: sisters Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar and brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

Asha Bhosle's mastery earned her two National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards. Reflecting on her craft in 2023, she remarked, “Main sach bolu toh main aaj ke gaane sunti hi nahi hoon. If I have to listen to songs, I hear Bhimsen Joshi’s songs, classical songs and ghazals as I get to learn and simultaneously, polish and practice my songs better through that.”
