Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer of Baaghi 4, received a mixed critical reception for his latest movie. Despite praise for Tiger Shroff's intense action sequences and performance, critics largely found the storyline to be weak, predictable and burdened with poor writing. People also questioned the excessive and unnecessary use of violence throughout the movie. While the movie drew crowds, its overall execution was criticised. Amid this, the production banner under which Baaghi 4 has been made, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, filed a police complaint regarding alleged extortion threats. The production house stated they have evidence, including call recordings, of individuals demanding money to prevent them from posting negative reviews online.

Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment shared an official post on Instagram and expressed that this campaign was not an exercise of fair criticism instead, those behind it wanted to harm the production house’s image. Reportedly, the company’s legal counsel, Ravi Suryawanshi of Bar and Brief Attorneys, said NGE has submitted call recordings and other documents to investigative agencies, seeking action against what it calls extortion attempts targeting films, directors, and actors.

A part of the statement released on social media by the production house read, “We recently came across evidence - including call recordings - indicating that a few individuals were demanding money and threatening to malign the reputation of our films, directors, and lead actors if their demands were not met. We believe such behaviour warrants investigation by the appropriate authorities."

Their post stated that they are a firm supporter of freedom of speech and expression and will never object to fair criticism or reviews of their movies. On the contrary, they also believe that constructive criticism is essential for helping filmmakers grow and for fostering the healthy development of the industry.

Several netizens supported this move and expressed their views in the comments sections. A social media user wrote, “I STAND WITH YO Itni Himmat Kisme Hai Jo 70 Saal Purane Production Houses ko Blackmail Kare?” Another person mentioned, “Who is blackmailing you ? give us the proofs and name and we'll stand against them.” A third person commented, “Name them, shame them.”

Earlier this month, the Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC) raised concerns over similar activities, alleging that certain influencers pressurised producers through threats of negative reviews and started a smear campaign aimed at harming a film’s box office performance. Interestingly, the whole controversy revolving around Sajid Nadiadwala’s production company started amidst the online chatter that the team had been removing negative reviews about their movie.
