Devi Chowdhurani Teaser: The Bengali epic Devi Chowdhurani, a retelling of the life of India’s first female freedom fighter, made history on August 15 by lighting up the towering billboards of New York’s Times Square. This marks the first-ever Independence Day unveiling for an Indian film at the world-famous location. Starring Prosenjit Chatterjee as the legendary rebel Bhavani Pathak and Srabanti Chatterjee in the title role, the film has been the talk of the industry since the release of its teaser on August 13. With grand visuals, strong performances, and an unapologetically revolutionary tone, the project is already generating huge excitement.
Prosenjit Chatterjee expressed his pride and reportedly stated, "On our Independence Day, the teaser of Devi Chowdhurani, based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s tale of India’s first rebellion for freedom, lights up Times Square. This Indo-UK venture is our tribute to the courage and spirit of our people. Very soon, the world will witness it. Bande Mataram." Srabanti Chatterjee, who plays Devi Chowdhurani, added, "It’s extremely exciting for our team to see the teaser showcased at Times Square throughout Independence Day 2025. This is a part of our forgotten history, and I’m grateful to my director and producers for such a grand canvas."
Meanwhile, Producers Aparna and Aniruddha Dasgupta (ADited) and Soumyajit Majumdar (LOK) shared their pride in presenting Indian stories internationally. They said, "Earlier last year, we unveiled our film Joyguru at Times Square during Bengali New Year. Now, for the first time ever, an Indian story blazes across the Times Square screens on Independence Day. Rooted in Bengal yet universal in spirit, this is more than just a film, it’s India’s history meeting the world’s most iconic cultural crossroads."
