Dhanush has an exciting lineup of films in store for his fans, with him in different roles and stories. The actor, who is gearing up for Kuberaa, Idly Kadai and Tere Ishk Mein, is now set to portray the role of the 11th president of India and aerospace scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in the upcoming biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India. The movie is being helmed by filmmaker Om Raut. The announcement made at the ongoing prestigious Cannes Film Festival has left fans thrilled.
Dhanush will be presenting the life story of India's former president, widely known as the ‘Missile Man of India.’ The biopic will capture Kalam's journey, inspired by his bestselling book 'Wings of Fire,' showcasing his achievements as a scientist and President.
Om Raut is directing the movie with the screenplay penned by Saiwyn Quadras, known for delivering commercially acclaimed biopics like Neerja, Maidaan and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.
Sharing his excitement about the biopic and playing such a role, Dhanush wrote on Instagram, "I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to be portraying the life of such an inspirational and magnanimous leader — our very own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam sir." Soon after his fans flocked into the comment section. One user wrote, "What a unexpected gem film the legend’s biopic." Another comment read, "Dhanush as Dr.APJ Abdul kalam." Others were not happy with the director's name. One comment read, "Everything is fine until u see the director's name."

Om Raut, in a statement, explained what this movie is going to be about. He said, “In an era starved of true statesmen, Kalam stood above politics and pettiness. He was a man who was known for power of education, excellence and indigenous innovation. To bring his story to screen is an artistic challenge and a moral and cultural responsibility. It’s a story that’s inspirational for global youth and especially the youth of Global south. It's the most important experience of my life. His life is lesson that is bound to connect with people no matter who they are and where they come from.”
Producer Abhishek Agarwal added, “We are excited to bring the epic life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to the big screen. This is an emotional moment for us. I am honoured to collaborate with Om Raut ji, Dhanush ji, and Bhushan ji of T-Series stalwarts of Indian cinema. We are privileged to tell this story, and each of us is giving our best to bring to life the journey of our true Bharat Ratna Kalam ji. This is one of Indian cinema’s most prestigious projects and will be a grand spectacle on a global scale.”
The story is being backed by Abhishek Agarwal under Abhishek Agarwal Arts along with Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.
