Rekha, an iconic Bollywood actress, has won the hearts of millions with her mesmerising screen presence and timeless beauty. She made her debut as a lead actress in the 1970 movie Sawan Bhadon and went on to become one of the most celebrated stars in Bollywood. Known for her powerful performances, elegance, and charm, Rekha has made headlines many times. While her professional journey has been full of success, her personal life has also drawn much attention.
One of her personal life instances includes an intriguing rumour that circulated in the early 1980s, which alleged Rekha’s closeness with South Indian superstar Kamal Haasan. While she was shooting for Yash Chopra’s Silsila, Rekha had also signed a Tamil movie titled Meendum Kokila, which featured Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. According to reports, the two actors developed a close bond during the Tamil movie’s shoot.

Things allegedly took a dramatic turn when Kamal Haasan’s then-wife, Vani Ganapathy, reportedly caught the two together. A Tamil journalist earlier shared the incident with Rediff quoting a hotel staffer and said, “In late 1979, I was working at the Hotel Chola Sheraton in Chennai. One night, when I reported for work, I found the place in a tizzy. As the girls in reception told the story, Kamal Haasan and Rekha Ganesan were in the latter’s room in the hotel when Kamal’s then-wife, Vani Ganapathy, landed up and gave her husband a public dressing down.” After this, Rekha was reportedly replaced in the movie. However, neither Rekha nor Kamal Haasan has ever spoken publicly about the incident, and it continues to remain unconfirmed.
Later, in 1988, the Thug Life actor officially ended his ten years of marriage with Vani Ganapathy. Their relationship had already started to deteriorate as Kamal became close to actress Sarika. Sarika was reported to be pregnant with his child at that time.
Rekha’s Love Affair With Amitabh Bachchan
On the other hand, Rekha’s name has also long been linked to Amitabh Bachchan. Despite Big B marrying Jaya Bhaduri in 1973, rumours about his relationship with Rekha kept surfacing, especially during and after their film Silsila. The movie’s love triangle storyline further added to the speculation, as the fans were convinced that the characters were imitating their real-life scenario.

Meanwhile, actor-director Ranjeet, in an old interview with Rediff, shared an interesting story about Rekha during the shoot of the Kaaranama movie. He said, “The entire first schedule of Kaaranama was an evening shift. One day, Rekha called and requested if I could move the schedule to a morning shift, as she wanted to spend the evenings with Amitabh Bachchan.”
Later, Rekha briefly married industrialist Mukesh Agarwal in 1990, but the marriage ended in tragedy when he passed away the following year. Since then, Rekha has mostly stayed away from talking about her personal life publicly.
