Speaking on her YouTube channel during a visit to music composer Vishal Dadlani's farmhouse, Farah Khan shared the story behind the song's creation. She recalled initially approaching A. R. Rahman to compose the soundtrack for Om Shanti Om.

Reliving the moment, Farah Khan stated, "Rahman’s first song that he made for Om Shanti Om was Masakali. I didn’t know where I was going to use it, but I loved that song and I loved that word."

Farah explained that while she admired the composition, Rahman eventually stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts, leading her to hire Vishal and Shekhar as the film's primary composers.

From Om Shanti Om To Delhi-6

Despite being dropped from Om Shanti Om, A. R. Rahman retained the composition and later adapted it for director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 2009 drama Delhi-6. Sung by Mohit Chauhan with lyrics written by Prasoon Joshi, 'Masakali' was picturised on Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan.

The track’s playful vibe and carefree picturisation transformed it into a chart-topping hit that defined Sonam Kapoor's early career persona. Over 15 years later, the track continues to be celebrated as a classic Bollywood song.
