Indian DJ culture has risen from the dark corners of quiet nightlife to packed stadiums echoing with thousands of screaming fans. Reflecting on this transformation, the king of Bollywood mashups, DJ Chetas says, "When I started, DJs were part of the nightlife, but today, DJs are the headliners. That’s a massive shift."
DJ Chetas has witnessed this magnificent shift of what started as a niche music scene and has now exploded into a mainstream phenomenon. Now, the DJs are no longer background performers, but the main event.
Noting how much the music landscape has shifted over the years, DJ Chetas claims. "The audience has evolved, the industry has evolved, and people now come to a show specifically for the artist and their sound."

Recently, DJ Chetas wrapped up his famous and highly anticipated nationwide tour 'Chandni Bar Tour 2.0'. While the original tour set a benchmark for Bollywood mashup culture, the maestro promised that the reboot would deliver nostalgia on an even larger scale, and he delivered.
"We’re taking the music, production, energy and madness to another level," Chetas shares. "Expect bigger drops, crazier mashups, unexpected moments and a lot of songs that will make you say, 'I haven’t heard this in years!'"
Curating the perfect setlist for a massive crowd is no easy feat, but Chetas has found a way to bridge generational gaps by reinventing classic tunes. He explains that while the timeless tracks of the 90s and 2000s form the soul of the tour, he refuses to keep the sound stuck in the past.
Instead, he says that he adapts vintage Bollywood melodies into modern club frequencies by blending original emotions with fresh synth-pop, Punjabi fusion, and heavy modern beats that are on the rise now. "A great melody never gets old, it just needs a new take," he emphasises. "The challenge is making someone who grew up with the song love it, while making someone hearing it for the first time want to dance."

Navigating India’s vast cultural diversity, the music maestro states that he reads the pulse of the place as well as the city to adapt his performance to the vibe. This has become his signature style.
"Every city has its own pulse, and I believe a good DJ has to read that pulse. I adapt the music depending on the crowd, but the energy stays DJ Chetas unmistakably."
Is AI Going To Change Live DJing And Mashup Culture?
As artificial intelligence and rapid music production software continue to reshape the global music landscape, Chetas remains unbothered by technology replacing live performers.
While he views new production software as a fast and powerful creative tool, he firmly believes that technology can never replicate human intuition or live connection.
"AI can help you make a sound, but it can’t look at 20,000 people and know exactly when to drop it," he notes. "The artist, the emotion and the connection with the crowd will always remain human."
