‘Have Seen Kartik Aaryan, Sushant Singh Rajput Go Through It’: Muzammil Ibrahim On How Bollywood Sabotages Outsiders

The insider vs outsider debate has been continuing over the years in Bollywood. Several celebrities talked about how newcomers or outsiders face challenges and resistance if they have potential or are a threat to established stars. Special Ops actor Muzammil Ibrahim claimed that Bollywood sabotages outsiders. He also gave examples of stars like Kartik Aaryan and Sushant Singh Rajput. Ibrahim also claimed that it’s only those people who have the potential to become A-listers, big stars, not just those who are seen as minor threats.

In an interview with Filmygyan, Muzammil Ibrahim said, “Oh, they sabotage you. If you are too good or good enough, there’s a narrative carried out against you and every actor who’s been good enough has faced it. I’ve seen Kartik Aaryan go through it, Sushant Singh Rajput go through it. But it’s only those guys who have the potential to become A-listers—big stars—not just those who are seen as minor threats. Those who have the real potential, they face this.”

Earlier in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ibrahim said that he thought he would win the debutant award for Dhokha and Ranbir Kapoor for Saawariya. He added, “Ranbir Kapoor had debuted that year with Saawariya, along with Neil Nitin Mukesh. When I met Nana sir, he said, 'We know you won't get the award. Yours was the best performance.' I also thought that all the awards were mine. I deserved an award for Dhokha. I 100 per cent deserved best debutant for Dhokha. All the awards should have been mine. I feel I was better than Ranbir was in Saawariya. I love Ranbir now; he's an amazing actor, one of the only star kids I really respect and look up to. In Saawariya and Dhokha, if you compare, I was better in Dhokha.”
