Love in the glamourous world of Bollywood often takes unconventional paths. Many leading ladies have openly followed their hearts, choosing to build beautiful lives with men who were previously married or divorced. Let us look closely at seven popular Bollywood actresses who found lasting love with previously married men.
7 Bollywood Actresses Found Love With Men Who Had Been Married Before
1. Hema Malini and Dharmendra
The legendary love story between Hema Malini and Dharmendra began on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawaan in 1970. At the time, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur and had four children.
They eventually tied the knot on 2 May 1980 in a traditional Iyengar ceremony. Hema chose to live in a separate household rather than disrupting Dharmendra's first family.
The couple stayed deeply committed to each other until Dharmendra passed away in late 2025. Together, they share two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
2. Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's romance blossomed on the sets of Tashan in 2008. Saif had previously been married to actress Amrita Singh for thirteen years and was father of two children, Sara and Ibrahim.
Despite a noticeable age gap and Saif's past marriage, Kareena embraced the relationship with open arms. The couple got married on 16 October 2012 after several years of dating.
Today, they are widely considered one of Bollywood’s most admired power couples. Kareena and Saif have two young sons, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.
3. Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra
Rani Mukerji found love with filmmaker and head of Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra. Aditya was previously married to Payal Khanna.
Rani and Aditya always kept their developing relationship intensely private. After years of speculation, the couple surprised everyone by getting married in a very quiet, intimate ceremony in Italy on 21 April 2014.
They continue to remain happily married. Rani and Aditya have one child together, a daughter named Adira Chopra, who was born in 2015.
4. Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra
Shilpa Shetty’s relationship with British-Indian businessman Raj Kundra began during a professional meeting to launch her perfume brand. Raj was previously married to a woman named Kavita Kundra.
The couple faced a massive wave of media gossip but stayed focused on their mutual affection. They officially tied the knot on 22 November 2009 in a lavish, traditional wedding ceremony.
They have two children together: a son named Viaan Raj Kundra and a daughter named Samisha Shetty Kundra, who was born via surrogacy.
5. Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover
Bipasha Basu fell deeply in love with Karan Singh Grover while they were filming the horror movie Alone together in 2015. Karan had been married twice before: first to Shraddha Nigam and later to Jennifer Winget.
The couple celebrated their union with a star-studded wedding on 30 April 2016.
They are happily together today. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Devi Basu Singh Grover, in 2022.
6. Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi
Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta found her soulmate in Indian tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi. Mahesh was previously married to model Shvetha Jaishankar.
Lara and Mahesh met through a sports management company and quickly clicked due to their shared values and professional understanding. They legally registered their marriage on 16 February 2011.
The couple remain happily together. They share one child together, a daughter named Saira Bhupathi, born in 2012.
7. Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur
Karisma Kapoor married Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur on 29 September 2003 in a grand, high-profile wedding. Sunjay had previously been married to designer Nandita Mahtani.
After living separately for a long period, the couple filed for a mutual consent divorce, which was officially finalised in 2016.
Sunjay Kapur passed away in June 2025. During their time together, they had two children: a daughter named Samaira Kapur and a son named Kiaan Raj Kapur.
These prominent actresses showed immense emotional maturity by looking beyond previous divorces and focusing entirely on real compatibility and trust. While some of these journeys faced complex family structures and others unfortunately ended in separation, these women bravely embraced love on their own terms.
