House of the Dragon Season 3's most unsettling scene has already been revealed since the first episode premiered in India on June 22. Aemond Targaryen breached a threshold that swiftly shocked the fandom when he kissed his mother, Alicent Hightower, in an unexpected moment.

While the House of the Dragon fans exploded in disgust over the incest scene, lead actor Ewan Mitchell defended the controversial creative choice. He argued that the boundary-crossing gesture highlighted Aemond Targaryen's deeply fractured psychology and a desperate craving for maternal warmth.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Actor Ewan Mitchell DEFENDS Kiss Scene

Ewan Mitchell stated that Aemond, the royal son who has taken over as Prince Regent of the Green Team from his absent elder brother, King Aegon, has been building this kiss for a long time, in an interview with USA TODAY. "It was definitely weird reading that for the first time in the script."

Ewan Mitchell said, "But I always kind of knew Aemond was capable of doing that, especially with his, well, Mommy issues. I didn't think it was too much of a stretch."

"Alicent was the only one in Aemond's corner. She was the one telling the others that this kid has been physically maimed. Aemond never forgot that from his mum. He always wanted to repay that," the actor added. 

 

 

Aemond Targaryen is in complete control of the Iron Throne as Aegon and Lord Larys Strong escape the city. He has been relishing the benefits of the top position, including as being with the Queen Mother, even though he rightly fears the overwhelming dragon-power of rival Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.

"Aemond very much wants to be the Daddy to the Green side now. Aemond always had the motivation to provide for his mum. That eventually he would behead Daemon Targaryen, win the war for The Greens and settle down far from it with his mother, sipping pina coladas on some beach," he shared.

Ewan Mitchell was pleased with his co-star Olivia Cooke's response to the kiss, which included a false smile. Compared to the preview, it was far less joyful. He said the response to the kiss is worthy of a meme, if not an Emmy.

"There was something more unnerving with the slow draw in. He's kind of giving Alicent the chance to pull away, testing the waters before he even made contact. It's so brilliantly shot as well."
