Diana Penty made her Bollywood debut with a romantic comedy movie, Cocktail, in 2012. Before making her grand debut, she started her career with modelling. In a recent interview, Diana Penty opened up about giving auditions for Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar for the role of Heer. She also recalled how life took a magical turn when she was asked to play the role of Meera from Cocktail, a film written by Imtiaz Ali.

Diana Penty got candid in an interview with Hautterrfly and explained how she got the chance to give auditions for Rockstar. “I was in New York, modelling, and I got a call from my agency. They told me Imtiaz Ali was looking for a new girl for his film Rockstar, and you must meet him. Films were never on my radar, and I had never taken formal training in acting. I never had the confidence that I could be an actor one day. I never believed that I ever would pull it off. So I flew back for the meeting. At the first meeting, I was like Wow, he is such a nice person,” she said.

During the interview, Diana recalled that she was not confident enough as she was not a trained professional. Talking about her meeting with Imtiaz Ali, she said, “He had a long chat with me. He explained to me that this is the part I am looking for, looking for a new girl. I saw you in the mobile ad, and let’s do a look test.” The Happy Bhaag Jayegi star also mentioned that Imtiaz Ali made her feel comfortable and asked her to attend workshops, so that they could see whether things were going in the right direction or not.

She added, "After 2–3 weeks he said, ‘Look, I can see you have come a long way and I’ve seen a lot of improvement, but I still don’t feel you are ready to play the character in Rockstar. Maybe it is too soon for you.’ He was also going to shoot it in a month or so, and felt that I wasn’t ready at the time.” Expressing her relief, she mentioned that she was satisfied with not getting the role as she felt underconfident and went back to New York to continue modelling.
