The 56th International Film Festival of India has kickstarted in Goa. Instead of being limited to auditoriums or curated venues, the festival’s opening unfolded across streets, markets, boulevards, coastal stretches and public squares. The festivities began with Goa’s Governor, Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju. He addressed the audience, "IFFI has become a meaningful platform for creative exchange, new collaborations, and the celebration of cinematic excellence."

He further said that IFFI is more than a festival, adding that it is a living forum where "ideas, stories and creative minds from across the world" converge. He pointed out that Goa’s draw for filmmakers goes well beyond its postcard charm, adding that recent policy reforms have been aimed at making the state a smooth, hassle-free production hub.

Goa’s Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, highlighted India’s rising cultural influence, emphasising that Goa is equipped with world-class infrastructure—one of the key reasons it has become IFFI’s permanent home. He added that the state’s appeal for filmmakers goes far beyond its scenic charm, noting that recent policy reforms have been focused on transforming Goa into a smooth and efficient production hub.

The answer is simple: Goa offers world-class infrastructure, a tourism and hospitality industry trained to welcome the world, and a festival vibe that beautifully reflects the culture, creativity, scenic beauty and efficiency of this state. India is at the forefront of a creativity revolution, and IFFI continues to serve as the bridge between Indian talent and global possibilities," he said.

Sawant said, "As we inaugurate #IFFI2025, let us celebrate the power of storytelling, the unity of culture, the future of filmmaking, and Goa’s growing role in India’s cinematic journey on the global stage." He concluded, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Indian cinema is reaching international heights."
