Janaki vs State Of Kerala: Suresh Gopi’s highly anticipated Malayalam movie, Janaki vs State Of Kerala, has faced a significant delay. The movie was  initially slated for release on June 20 and then it shifted to June 27, 2025. The delay stems from a controversial demand by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board reportedly objected to the use of the name 'Janaki' in the film's title, asserting that it refers to the Hindu goddess Sita, making it inappropriate for a character who is a survivor of assault. Starring Anupama Parameswaram in the lead role, the filmmakers have now, after considerable controversy, secured a new release date and title.

Suresh Gopi took to his Instagram and dropped an intriguing poster confirming the new release date and the new title of the Malayalam legal drama. The caption of the post read, “Behind every delay… is a truth worth fighting for and in the end that truth shall always prevail!!! JANAKAI V vs. STATE OF KERALA U/A 16+ CERTIFICATION WORLDWIDERELEASE ON JULY 17TH” The Malayalam movie is now titled Janaki V vs State of Kerala. The movie is set to hit theatres on July 17, 2025, and has been certified with UA 16+.

Janaki V V/s State Of Kerala Movie Controversy

According to the makers of the Malayalam movie Janaki vs State Of Kerala, the CBFC objected to the film after its regional office in Thiruvananthapuram had already granted a U/A certificate. The Malayalam movie was subsequently sent to the CBFC headquarters in Mumbai, where a name change was requested. However, the filmmakers contended that altering the title would necessitate changes to numerous scenes and dialogues where the protagonist's name is mentioned.

Meanwhile, Suresh Kumar, the producer of the movie also commented on the film’s delay. He stated that the CBFC had become more cautious after Mohanlal’s movie Empuraan was released. He mentioned, “Empuraan had to be recensored due to the controversy. That’s when the censor board became more cautious. That’s why this problem has arisen; everything began from there.”
