Mohanlal's six-year term as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) came to an end last year. His resignation signifies a major change in leadership within the organization and led to the dissolution of the whole AMMA committee. Now that the association's first female president, Shwetha Menon, has written history, the Malayalam actor has finally explained why he resigned.

Mohanlal finally discussed his reasons for the decision in an interview with Asianet News, more than a year after the occurrence. Even while the Malayalam actor acknowledged that he received a lot of criticism, he believes he had another reason for leaving.

Mohanlal said, "I faced a lot of criticism. Suddenly, we became enemies to many people. But the resignations were not because of the criticism. I resigned when I felt it was time to put a full stop." He went on to say that his resignation was a 'natural process' of changing leadership rather than a 'defeat.' The 'positive change' of women assuming leadership positions within AMMA following this year's elections was another point he underlined.

Shwetha Menon became the first woman to serve as president of the AMMA committee. For the unversed, Mohanlal was president of AMMA from 2018 to 2021 and again from 2021 to 2024. He was also expected to serve from 2024 to 2027 but he declined.

Mohanlal's Latest Movies

Mohanlal's film career was still going strong in spite of the upheaval. His films L2: Empuraan and Thudarum were box office triumphs. The former became the highest-grossing Malayalam film with a box office receipt of Rs 265.5 crore, while the latter brought in Rs 234.5 crore globally.

Mohanlal's most recent release, Hridayapoorvam surpassed the Rs 50 crore milestone, solidifying his position in the film industry.
