BTS RM (formerly Rap Monster) expressed regret for plagiarising lyrics in December 2015, acknowledging that he had neglected to give due credit to the people who had contributed lines to a number of his songs, including those by other rappers. He was accused of stealing lines from other musicians, which sparked a dispute across social media platforms.

BTS RM pledged to be a more responsible songwriter, accepted full responsibility, and promised to get in touch with the original artists.

BTS RM Accused Of Plagiarising Song Lyrics

On December 1st, a Twitter user (@wevebeenhere) brought attention to the contentious lyrics, alleging that Rap Monster had stolen a line from him. He also disclosed that RM had copied the words of another Twitter user (@radiordinary) in addition to himself. Specifically, the lines from Primary's April release of the song U, in which BTS leader RM rapped, "I will become your underline because you're that important," were plagiarised.

BTS RM Apologised For Plagiarising Lyrics

BTS RM sincerely apologised for his failure to verify his sources while writing. Speaking at the 2015 MAMA, h said, "Hello. This is BTS’s Rap Monster. I’m currently in Hong Kong for MAMA. Today is a very important day for BTS, but I am writing because I think this is really important and I need to address this myself."

BTS RM continued, "First, I sincerely apologise. Even though I just started creating, I am just another creator who experiences a lot of difficulties. I can’t write music through mere internal stimulation, so I take inspiration from talks with friends, books I like, movies, interviews, and letters from fans," he wrote.

Taking full responsibility for his actions, the singer added, "I write the feelings and lines that left an impression on me in notes on my phone. Most are erased or forgotten, but after hearing the criticism today, I realised that I was unconscious of the mistakes I made. Without knowing the source and not remembering clearly, I carelessly worked, only thinking about having to write songs."

BTS singer RM assumed full responsibility and pledged to be a more responsible songwriter.
