Veteran Malayalam actor Shanavas, son of legendary star Prem Nazir, passed away at the age of 71. He was reportedly going through health-related issues. Shanavas took his last breath at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday night. He was undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments. Reportedly, he was undergoing treatment for kidney and heart related condition for past four years. He lived in Vazhuthacaud’s Cordon Trinity. After his condition was deteroited, he was immediately taken to the hospital on Monday. The funeral of Shanavas is set to take place at the Palayam Muslim Jamaat Cemetery on August 5. He is survived by his wife Aisha Malaysia and two children Shameer Khan and Ajith Khan. 

Shanavas has worked in over 50 films in his career and established a name for himself, following his footsteps of legendary late actor Prem Nazir. Shanavas debuted in 1981 with romantic movie Prema Geethangal, directed by Balachandra Menon. He then went onto work in different movies including Jaathi Pookkal, Dolls, Mylanji, Raagam Sreeragam, Prasnam  Gurutharam, Himam, Mazhanilavu, Maniyara, Rathilayam, Gaanam and Prathijnja to name a few.

He was on a break for years and made a comeback with 2011 movie China Town. It feaatured Dileep, Mohanlal, Jayaram, Kavya Madhavan and Suraj Venjaramoodu in prominent roles.

Shanavas was last appeared in Jana Gana Mana, which also starred Suraj Venjaramoodu and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The movie released in April 2022. It was directed by Dijo Jose Antony. 

Notably, his father Prem Nazir was a leading man in the Malayalam film industry from 50s to 70s. The actor was known for her work in movies like Ponnapuram Kotta, Kannappanunni, Aattakalasam, Lankadahanam, Picnic, Anubhavangal Paalichakal, Padayottam and Kallichellamma to name a few.
