A particular scene showing a Hindu king setting fire to a temple has drawn widespread criticism. Additionally, some viewers have taken issue with the portrayal of converts and Christian missionaries as heroic figures, fueling the backlash. The controversy surrounding Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has led to calls for a boycott, with hashtags trending on social media urging people to avoid the film. Some netizens have criticised the Malayalam film industry for allegedly disrespecting Hindu traditions.

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is a 2025 Indian Malayalam-language superhero film that marks the beginning of the Wayfarer Cinematic Universe. Directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan under Wayfarer Films, the movie boasts a talented cast, including Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, Sandy Arun Kurian and Chandu Salimkumar.

The film's production began on September 12, 2024 and principal photography wrapped up on January 30, 2025, after 94 days of shooting. The title was officially unveiled in June 2025. With impressive technical support from cinematographer Nimish Ravi, editor Chaman Chakko, and music composer Jakes Bejoy, the film hit theaters on August 28, 2025 and received generally positive reviews from critics.
