Kriti Sanon has come a long way from being an engineering student to a National Award-winning actor. Since her debut in the showbiz industry, the Delhi girl has carved out a niche for herself despite being an outsider. The actress has added yet another feather to her cap after being an actor, producer and entrepreneur; she is now also UNFPA India’s Honorary Ambassador of Gender Equality. At the event, Kriti reflected on her personal experiences with gender inequality, revealing how she grew up witnessing it. However, thanks to her progressive household, she was supported in challenging that mindset. She also admitted that the film industry exposed her to subtle forms of inequality.
Kriti Sanon On Unequal Treatment In Bollywood
Kriti credited her parents for raising her in an environment free of gender-based restrictions, which helped shape her progressive mindset. In a conversation with NDTV, she shared, "My mom grew up in a time when boys were allowed a lot of things that girls were not. Girls were supposed to stay at home, cook, and follow rules. She wanted to learn swimming or dancing, but couldn't. The only thing she fought for was studying, and she became a professor."
Revealing how her mother's struggle became the foundation for a different childhood for her and her sister, the actress stated, “Her first thought for me was, ‘Do whatever you want to. Whatever you dream of, go for it.’ That came from her."
Calling out subtle inequalities in Bollywood, Kriti added, "It hasn't happened too many times, but little things like the male actor getting a better car or a better room... It's not about the car, but about not making me feel smaller because I'm a woman. Just make it equal."

Highlighting the incidents, Kriti mentioned, “Sometimes even ADs have a habit of calling the female actor first and waiting for the male actor later. I’ve had to tell them not to do that. The mindset needs to change."
