Indian cinema's highest honour, the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award, has been given to Malayalam actor Mohanlal. On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting celebrated the superstar's four decades of contributions to the film industry by making the formal announcement.  The veteran actor said that the honour has 'deeply humbled' him. In a heartfelt post on X, Prime Minister Modi also honoured the renowned actor and praised his love of theatre and culture. Mohanlal's contemporaries and 'close friends' have also congratulated him for the Dadasaheb Phalke Honour.

Mohanlal expressed his gratitude to fans and well-wishers in response to the award in an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter). "Truly humbled to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This honour is not mine alone, it belongs to every person who has walked alongside me on this journey. To my family, audience, colleagues, friends, and well wishers, your love, faith, and encouragement have been my greatest strength and have shaped who I am today. I carry this recognition with deep gratitude and a full heart."

Mammootty, a longtime friend of Mohanlal, congratulated him on his X account. "More than a colleague, a brother, and an artist who has embarked on this wonderful cinematic journey for decades. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is not just for an actor, but for a true artist who has lived and breathed cinema. So happy and proud of you, Lal. You truly deserve this crown," read the congratulatory note. 

Akshay Kumar congratulated Mohanlal for the honour on social media. "Heartiest congratulations, @Mohanlal sir, on being honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Every time I’ve had the chance to meet you or observe your work, it’s been like sitting in the front row of the greatest acting school ever. This recognition is so richly deserved. Respect and love."

On his Instagram Stories, Prithviraj Sukumaran, who costarred with Mohanlal and most recently directed him in L2 Empuraan, wrote, "Congratulations chetta on the Dadasaheb Phalke Award! A truly well-deserved recognition for a legend beyond ages!"

Manju Warrier, who costarred with Mohanlal for the first time in Kanmadam, congratulated him and expressed gratitude for inspiring generations. "Congratulations Laletta! Thank you for inspiring generations. And for being our very own!" she said.

Due to COVID-19-related interruptions, the National Film Awards cycle was delayed by two years; therefore, Mohanlal is receiving the prize for 2023. Mithun Chakraborty, a veteran actor, received the honour last year. The veteran star has appeared in more than 350 Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada motion pictures. Known for his easygoing demeanour and diverse range of characters, he has given several highly praised performances in movies such as Pulimurugan, Vanaprastham, Thudarum, and Drishyam.
