Mass Jathara Box Office Collection Day 2: Mass Jathara, starring Ravi Teja and Sreeleela, was released in cinemas on 1st November, with paid premieres held a day earlier. This action-packed commercial entertainer marks the directorial debut of Bhanu Bogavarapu. However, the Telugu movie has found itself in a challenging position as it hit theatres at the same time as SS Rajamouli’s grand re-release, Baahubali: The Epic. The huge popularity of Baahubali has clearly affected Mass Jathara’s performance, making it difficult for the new release to fully capture the audience’s attention. Although the film is doing slightly better than Ravi Teja’s last outing, Mr Bachchan, it still has a long way to go to be considered a strong box office success.
According to early estimates by trade website Sacnilk, Mass Jathara collected around Rs 2.9 crore from its Thursday premieres. It went on to earn approximately Rs 3.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 3 crore on Sunday. With these numbers combined, the film has managed to collect a net total of about Rs 9.65 crore in India over its first two days. This is a mild improvement over Mr Bachchan, which earned Rs 6.35 crore in its opening two days, including premieres. Even so, the growth is not as strong as expected for a Ravi Teja mass entertainer, especially with a popular actress like Sreeleela also in the cast.
Meanwhile, the major setback for Mass Jathara has been the continuing craze around Baahubali: The Epic. Despite being a re-release of an already iconic film, Baahubali has outperformed Mass Jathara by a huge margin, collecting an estimated Rs 18.05 crore net in India over the same two-day period. With audiences repeatedly drawn back to the Baahubali experience on the big screen, Mass Jathara is finding it hard to stand out and attract heavy footfall in theatres.
