Is Monster: The Ed Gein Story worth the hype? When did you last watch a bone-chilling crime series, based on true events? Have you ever felt unsettling shiver down your spine while watching a show? Netflix's latest release titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story is here to give you chills. As the name suggests, the show revolves around Ed or as many call him, a real-life monster , who carries out some of the most-horrifying crimes due to obsession with his mother, even after her death. Well, the term monster is used for the gruesome killings he has been doing in order to collect women's genitals. If you are planning to stream this series anytime soon, here’s a look at whether it’s worth diving into or not.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story Plot
The Ed Gein Story is the latest installment following seasons about serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of killing their parents. This new story focuses heavily on sensationalism, over-the-top drama and shock value.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story: Review
Ed Geing's disturbing obsession with his mother Augusta, who has been torturing him due to her failed marriage, is the main cause of him turning into a monster. Also, his difficulty in forming relationships with women and the wierd obsession of his girlfriend Adeline with the dreadful imagery, change Ed's mindset, thinking that there is no harm in killing women, which is obviously sick. For the unversed, Ed is also suffering from undiagnosed schizophrenia which might be the reason of his psychic acts.
Sympathy towards a serial killer, WHY?
From the beginning itself, the show ignores the mysogyny, rather it tries to sympathise Gein's horrifying murders due to his mental state. So, there is noone to blame as the show portrays Gein more as a victim than a villain. Isn't it sick? Gein is shown as someone trapped by his own confusing desires (sometimes he is dressed in a lingerie, while other days he is desiring to settle down with his girlfriend) and pushed over the edge by external circumstances, especially his abusive mother.
Don't break mother's heart.

Charlie Hunnam and Laurie Metcalf star in Monster: The Ed Gein Story. Now on Netflix. pic.twitter.com/MW1cahySB2
In short, Ed Gein comes across as a lonely, pitiful and a tragic figure.
However, the show looks visually perfect. We have seen stories about serial killers before, but this one deserves slow claps. Sometimes it’s subtle, sometimes very graphic, but what adds value is that the creators manage to show the horrors of real life with great depth.

On the third episode of Monster: Ed Gein and this is honestly embarrassing. There is so much extra bullshit I question what story he is really trying to tell anymore. Plus most the stuff about Ed are absolute hogwash. Had some hope for this but I’m left disappointed. pic.twitter.com/W6zfjMIFpz
