Anand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa is one of the best classics when it comes to tragic love stories. Fans loved the movie for its raw and emotional depth, which touched the hearts of many in different ways. Following the announcement of Raanjhanaa’s re-release with an AI-altered climax that will show a happy ending, Anand L Rai expressed his disapproval of the same. In the original movie, Dhanush’s character Kundan willingly dies for Sonam Kapoor’s character Zoya. This emotional and tragic ending, along with the last monologue, became the core essence of the movie.

Raanjhanaa’s Tamil version Ambikapathy was released in theatres on August 1, 2025, and moviegoers have now shared videos of the climax from the movie on social media. The new ending showed Kundan lying on the bed, as Zoya sat beside him and watched his face. After a minute, Kundan gets up, leaving his friends Bindiya and Murari in tears. This climax garnered a mixed response from the netizens.

A user asked in confusion, "What does this achieve? Are they saying that Sonam and him live happily ever after?" "Worst ending made ever. Killing the essence of the movie," said another person. A third user reacted, "Some movies don't need happy endings. That's why it's special. The last monologue is the heart of the movie." On the other hand, some netizens hailed the climax as one person wrote, "Crowd is cheering. They are getting the comfort for which they come for. What's the harm!" Another comment mentioned, "My Kundan is alive, I'm so emotional while watching. Thank you Al.”

The original movie’s director Anand L Rai also reacted to the new climax and expressed his disappointment on social media. "The past three weeks have been surreal, and deeply upsetting. To watch Raanjhanaa, a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, be altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating," a part of his note read.
