Actor Mukul Dev’s untimely death at the age of 54 left not only his family but also his friends from the industry in shock. His brother, actor Rahul Dev, recently opened up about the actual reason behind his demise. He linked it to poor eating habits rather than the reports suggesting he was dealing with depression.
Rahul Dev in a conversation with The Times of India revealed how Mukul felt lonely and had lost interest in life. He shared, “He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether. Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life...He would turn down several work offers... Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in and I know the pain will only deepen.”
Rahul shared that Mukul's life took a turn after moving to Delhi in 2019 to care for their father, who passed away the same year, leaving Mukul deeply affected. Despite his mother's passing in 2023, it was the loss of his father that seemed to have a profound impact. Mukul's personal life, marked by divorce and separation from his daughter, further contributed to his isolation. As Rahul noted, Mukul's reclusive nature and struggles with self-care worsened in the absence of a strong support system.

After Mukul’s death, several reports circulated claiming that he was struggling with depression, and on this, Rahul dismissed such speculations. He stated by saying that those people who were making such statements were not in touch with him.
Rahul stated, "The people who are speaking out now weren’t even in touch with him. They say he was unfit, but he ran half-marathons. Yes, he had gained weight — when someone stops caring about themselves, it shows... Who really stayed in touch with him between 2019 and 2024? Did they visit him when he was in the hospital or attend his prayer meet?”.

Mukul Dev left an unmissable mark on silver and small screens with his performances. He starred in movies like Son of Sardaar, Yamla Pagla Deewana and R... Rajkumar, Dastak, Shareek, Qila, Mere Do Anmol Ratan, among many others. He passed away on May 23 in New Delhi due to ailing health.
