Ranveer Singh Hit With Second Complaint Despite Apology For Insulting Tulu Tradition As Depicted in Kantara

On Wednesday, November 3, an advocate in Bengaluru filed a complaint against Ranveer Singh, stating that he hurt beliefs by mocking and demeaning the sacred Daiva (Bhoota Kola) practice shown in Rishab Shetty-led Kantara, according to police. The complaint against Ranveer Singh alleged that he drew a caricature of the Panjuluri/Guliga daiva, who is worshiped in the coastal Karnataka region. This is the second complaint lodged against the actor, who has since apologised in this situation.

Advocate Prashanth Methal filed a complaint with the High Grounds Police Station, claiming that the actor ridiculed the sacred daiva tradition during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28, as per The Hindu.

The counsel allegedly stated that the performance was 'crude, insulting' and caused 'deep hurt' to Hindu emotions, particularly in the Tulu community. It further stated that Singh referred to the daiva as a 'female ghost', which the advocate described as 'blasphemous' and 'deliberate contempt'.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a Hindu organization, filed a complaint at the Panaji police station on December 1st, claiming that Ranveer Singh had insulted Chavundi Daiva from Kantara Chapter 1. The actor even issued an apology noting that he never intended to insult anyone's faith beliefs on December 2.

Ranveer Singh apologized after the viral video of him imitating the daivas caused significant upror on social media. He said, "My intention was to highlight Rishab's incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration."

The complaint comes barely few days ahead of Ranveer Singh's forthcoming film Dhurandhar. On Friday, December 5, the film directed by Aditya Dhar is scheduled to open in theaters. The spy thriller, which features Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan in the lead roles, landed itself in controversy because the parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma have claimed that the movie is based on their courageous son's life without taking legal permission from the Indian Army or the family.
