“I’ve never asked for work. And I’ve never spent lavishly. I had no need for multiple cars or a large house. I lived in Goregaon, I didn’t have extra cars, and I lived within my means. To this day, it’s not like I have to go out for dinner thrice a week. I have kept my expenses down to the lowest minimum possible,” he said during the conversation.

Further, the veteran actor expressed that he did not like taking up jobs just for money. He revealed that life threw various hurdles at different points in time, but he still helped those who came to him seeking help. “It’s not that I wear those days as a medal on my chest. I don’t. But it happened. Many times, I wouldn’t know what would happen after two months. I was an assistant director back then,” he explained.

Recalling his struggling days, Varun shared that once he and his flatmate were left with just Rs 250 and nothing else. The duo decided to go and eat Chinese food and shared a drink, after which their bank balance was zero. For three days, they had no money, but soon got work, which helped them pass a month with Rs 3000-Rs 4000. In a past interview with Siddarth Kannan, Varun Badola had shared that it was really difficult for him to raise a family of seven members- his parents, kid, wife and two dogs.

Interestingly, Varun Badola is not the only actor from the blockbuster movie Saiyaara who faced bankruptcy. Actor Rajesh Kumar, who played the role of Aneet Padda’s father in the movie, once revealed during an old interview with Meri Saheli that he was in debt of Rs 2 crore after investing his savings in farming.
