The Ba***ds Of Bollywood: Former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede has taken legal action against director Aryan Khan, Netflix, and Red Chillies Entertainment after the release of the web series The Ba***ds Of Bollywood. He claims the show includes a scene deliberately inspired by his involvement in Aryan’s 2021 drugs-on-cruise case, and that it harms his reputation. Although Red Chillies submitted an affidavit describing the series as a ‘situational satire’, the Delhi High Court has now questioned the bias reflected in the show.

During the hearing on Monday (17 November), Senior Advocate Kaul who is representing Shah Rukh Khan’s production house argued that the series is clearly satire and that the makers are free to draw inspiration from real people. He stated that producers and creators should not be restricted simply because a character resembles someone in real life. To support his point, he referred to the work of celebrated cartoonist R.K. Laxman, who often used satire to comment on political leaders, including the Prime Minister. However, the Delhi High Court responded that R.K. Laxman’s satire never showed the type of bias that appears to be present in the Netflix show.

Meanwhile, Sameer Wankhede’s lawyer, Advocate J. Sai Deepak, questioned Red Chillies’ defence. He said that if the makers insist the show is satire, then they should admit who it is based on, as the scenes clearly link to real events. He added that the controversial sequence does not add anything meaningful to the story but still causes harm to Wankhede’s image. The court also asked about ongoing cases against Wankhede, including CBI, ED, and CAT proceedings. Feeling targeted by the show, Wankhede asked, “Do I deserve this trial in public opinion?” Advocate Kaul responded that the CBI and ED inquiries were not created by Red Chillies or Netflix, and that the real case was between Aryan Khan and investigating agencies not the production studio.

Furthermore, Wankhede’s lawyer also referred to a tweet by reviewer Kamaal R. Khan, saying the show has led to online abuse and threats. He argued that the series has convinced many viewers that Wankhede is dishonest, and claimed that both Netflix and Red Chillies were working “in cahoots” by refusing to take responsibility for the show’s impact. He further said disclaimers do little to change public perception.
