HAQ is a compelling courtroom drama that goes beyond the bounds of the law to examine more significant issues of equality, belief, and the cost of truth. Shah Bano Begum's legal heirs are asking for an immediate halt to the release of the upcoming movie, which stars Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar. The movie, inspired by the historic Shah Bano Begum case, is expected to be released on November 7, 2025.

Shah Bano Begum's family allegedly stated in their petition to Indore High Court, through their counsel, Adv Tousif Warsi, that the film offends Muslim feelings and presents Sharia law in a misogynistic manner. According to their allegations, the film's producers also lack any legal rights from Shah Bano Begum's legitimate heirs.

The petition is anticipated to be heard soon by the Indore High Court. Ameet Naik, Parinaam Law, and Hitesh Jain of Naik & Naik are representing the film's producers.

Meanwhile, HAQ trailer has received a lot of positive reviews, but it has become a contentious issue on the internet, with hardliners criticizing it and progressive secularists supporting it.

All About HAQ Movie

Haq is influenced by the 1985 Supreme Court decision in the Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum case, which supported a Muslim woman's Indian legal claim to maintenance. Based on journalist Jigna Vora's book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti, the movie dramatizes the case's emotional, legal, and social upheaval.

Emraan Hashmi plays her husband, attorney Abbas Khan, while Yami plays Shazia Bano, a lady who challenges the legal system to strive for justice. According to director Suparn Varma, Haq is a stirring tale of courage, equality, and faith—themes that are just as pertinent now as they were forty years ago.
