Srikanth, who predominantly works in the Tamil and Telugu film industry, has been remanded to Judicial custody till July 7 by a Chennai court. He has been under the scanner of the law after he allegedly bought and used cocaine while maintaining contacts with drug dealers. Srikanth’s blood samples were sent for medical examination, following which reports confirmed drug usage. The case opened when police arrested a functionary of the AIADMK IT wing named T Prasad, who allegedly supplied the banned drug to the actor. Amid the investigation with Prasad, police came across Srikanth’s involvement in the case.

After receiving some prominent evidence, police took Srikanth into custody. The actor was interrogated for nine hours at Nungambakkam Police Station, Chennai. His blood samples were taken for medical examination, after which the reports came back positive. He was produced before Magistrate Dhayalan of the 14th Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Following the hearing, he was officially taken into custody till July 7.

Srikanth made his acting debut with Jannal Marabu Kavithaigal in 1999. The 46 actor made his silver screen debut with the 2002 Tamil film Roja Kootam opposite Bhumika Chawla. The actor then worked in movies like Parthiban Kanavu, Mirugaa, Preyasi Raave, Evandoi Srivaru, Bambara Kannaley, Sowkarpettai, Mahatma and Nanban, to name a few. Srikanth was last seen in the 2025 movie Dinasari. The Tamil movie also features Cynthia Lourde, Chandini Tamilarasan, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan and Meera Krishnan in pivotal roles. It has been directed by G. Sankar and produced by Cynthia Lourde. The film was released in theatres on February 14, 2025. Dinasari is currently streaming on Tentkotta.

In an interview with NDTV, Director General of Police Mr Shankar Jiwal said that while Tamil Nadu does not produce drugs but it has become a transit hub for international drug trafficking. This is particularly for shipments which are destined for Sri Lanka and several other countries.
