Dostana 2: Few Bollywood films in recent times have caused as much confusion as Dostana 2. Ever since it was first announced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film has been stuck in delays, recasting changes, and endless rumours about its story and cast. Fans have long wondered if the project is still happening or if it has quietly been shelved. But now, some clarity has begun to emerge. Last week, actor and National Award winner Vikrant Massey confirmed that the film is indeed moving forward and that it marks his first collaboration with Dharma Productions. His entry into the franchise has sparked fresh curiosity.
Vikrant Massey, known for acclaimed films such as A Death in the Gunj, Haseen Dillruba, and the award-winning 12th Fail, revealed, “I’m doing my first Dharma movie.” This confirmed that Dostana 2 is alive and not scrapped, as many had feared. He also made it clear that Lakshya, the actor who was originally supposed to debut with Dostana 2, remains on board. Lakshya, introduced by Dharma back in 2019, has had his launch delayed multiple times, but the project still seems to be his official entry into Bollywood. Earlier versions of the film’s casting featured Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor as leads alongside Lakshya. However, both are no longer attached to the film. When asked who would replace Janhvi Kapoor as the leading lady, Vikrant Massey chose to stay silent. He said he would rather wait for the official announcement from Dharma, leaving fans guessing.

In the meantime, strong rumours have pointed towards rising South Indian actress Sreeleela joining the cast. According to an earlier report, a source revealed, “The story of Dostana 2 will remain the same but the cast and the director have been changed. Janhvi Kapoor, who was roped in to play the female lead earlier, is no longer a part of the film. Instead, the makers are considering Sreeleela for the part. Her dance number in Pushpa 2: The Rule has made her a much sought-after name in the movies. And the team of Dostana 2 are extremely keen on having her in the film.” Sreeleela has quickly risen as one of the most promising stars in South cinema, and Bollywood has already taken notice of her growing popularity. If she officially joins Dostana 2, it would be a big step in her career, marking her crossover into a mainstream Hindi film under one of the biggest production houses in the country.

For now, Dharma Productions has not issued any official statement regarding the confirmed cast or who will direct the film after the earlier shake-ups. What is certain, though, is that Dostana 2 has not been shelved. With Vikrant Massey, Lakshya, and possibly Sreeleela leading the film, the project is slowly taking shape again.
