GlobeTrotter Event: A fresh controversy has erupted around filmmaker SS Rajamouli after a police complaint was lodged against him in Hyderabad. The issue began after Rajamouli made a series of emotional comments about Lord Hanuman during the title-launch event of his upcoming film Varanasi. The remarks, made in front of the media and fans, quickly went viral online and have sparked a heated debate about religious sensitivity, artistic freedom, and personal belief.
Police Complaint Filed Against SS Rajamouli
The event, held on 17th November at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, faced a major technical glitch that caused delays and frustration. Following this, Rajamouli openly spoke about his personal beliefs, saying, “I don’t have much faith in gods. This is an emotional moment for me. I don’t believe in God.” He added that his father had assured him everything would go smoothly, saying Lord Hanuman would ‘take care of things’. Reacting to the glitches, Rajamouli shared, “Is this how he leads me?” Several Hindu organisations, including Vanarasena, Gow Rakshak Sangh, and members of the Rashtriya Vanara Sena, submitted a formal complaint to the Saroor Nagar Police Inspector. They accused the filmmaker of intentionally insulting Hindu deities and attempting to provoke religious tensions. The letter called for strict legal action.

Meanwhile, Rajamouli also mentioned his family’s deep faith. He said, “My wife is a big admirer of Hanuman. She treats the god like her friend and talks to him. I expressed my anger at her too, saying, ‘Is this how he does things?’” Another line that circulated widely on social media “Is he even a god?” became the centre of online criticism. Many users claimed the comments were disrespectful and unnecessary, especially during a public event.

He may be an atheist, but making such comments about God is completely unacceptable.” Another user wrote, “Why should you blame Hanuman when your team couldn’t work? Blame your team and technicians instead.” A widely shared post stated, “Atheism against #HanumanJi is unacceptable Mr Rajamouli… Please remember, where there is Jai Shree Ram, our beloved Hanumanji follows and is worshipped by crores of Indians.” Many demanded an apology, with comments like, “It’s good if you apologise for this.”
