Stranger Things Season 5 finale is around the corner. The audience awaits to witness the fate of each one of the characters of Netflix's most-popular web series, but the main tension that lies in everyone's head is who will have to bid goodbye with tragic ending. The thought is not self-made but it only arouse after Duffer Brothers warned, "some of us might end up crying in front of strangers if we see the finale".
The Duffers have established that catharsis often requires a painful sacrifice. The possibility of losing a core character in the final season feels deeply personal to the fandom. With Season 4's dramatic conclusion leaving Hawkins scarred by Vecna's invasion, the Season 5 trailer prepares the group—and the audience—for the final act.

Max
The last shot we see of Max is of her hospitalised in a coma, with broken bones and her concerned friends by her side. She's alive, but her temporary death was enough for Vecna to accomplish his goal. A fan believes that Max won't survive after all. He even shared that the conclusion of the episode will feature her voiceover reading the letters she wrote in season 4.
Steve Harrington
Recently, actor Joe Keery offered a major hint that Steve Harrington survives the final season, stating he was "very happy" with how the character's arc concluded for him personally. When asked if fans would agree, Keery confidently declared, "Oh yeah! Absolutely yeah! They are gonna like it!" suggesting Steve's ending will be a positive one.
However, if the story needs a heart-wrenching moment, Steve Harrington's sacrifice would fit the plot well and his death could also resonate with the audience.

"This isn't like one of your campaigns. You don't get to write the ending," says Eleven in Stranger Things Season 5 trailer. Her statement gives away the strongest hint about an unfortunate fate she could face at the end of series. Even, she is unsure if she survives the biggest battle of her life.
It is pertinent to note that despite all fan theories, nobody has to die in the season's finale. There is a possibility that the show could end with all characters alive, except for Vecna.
