Actor Sudev Nair, who is gearing up for his upcoming OTT web series Kammattam, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding digital content regulation. In the wake of recent government action against OTT platforms for allegedly showcasing "obscene and sexually explicit content," actor Sudev Nair has shared his perspective on where to draw the line between artistic expression and content that may be deemed offensive. “Every society has a different moral fabric. Indian morals and values differ greatly from the West's, and we must respect that,” said Nair in an exclusive chat with The Daily Jagran.
The actor emphasised that while art should challenge audiences and push them beyond their comfort zones, it must do so responsibly. "As artists, we need to find creative ways to challenge the audience rather than using sex as a shortcut to add shock or attention. When it is used exploitatively, it is very obvious, and that's where I draw the line," he further added.
Nair believes that true storytelling lies in innovation and depth rather than sensationalism. According to him, striking a balance between creative freedom and cultural context is essential for content to be both impactful and respectful.
About Kammattam:The web series is based on the sensational cooperative bank scams that recently rocked Thrissur—marked by multi-crore loan frauds, alleged political connections and a serious erosion of public trust.
Kammattam is making history as Zee5's first Malayalam web series. Expressing confidence over the project, Nair said, "We are confident in the show that we have made. How the audience accepts it is something nobody can predict anyway. But this will definitely encourage ZEE5 to invest in more content in Malayalam because they know the talent and professionalism is there."
Zee5 will premiere Kammattam on September 5, presenting it as a special Onam gift for Malayalis across the globe.
