Actors frequently reflect on projects they refused and wonder about what could have happened if they had accepted. Bollywood star Varun Dhawan recently talked about one such movie he lost, a highly regarded thriller that went on to become one of the biggest hits in recent Hindi cinema. In fact, it won several National Awards.

Varun Dhawan Rejected Andhadhun

Varun Dhawan is currently busy with his latest release, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by David Dhawan. In a recent discussion with Tanmay Bhatt on his YouTube channel, the actor revealed that he had previously turned down a movie that went on to become critically and commercially acclaimed.

Varun Dhawan disclosed that he turned down Andhadhun when asked if he had ever turned down a movie that went on to become a huge hit and made him regret it. "I think I said no to a good film, which became a very good film, Andhadhun. But I was filming for something else so I couldn't do it. And the original cast of the film was supposed to be me and Kangana Ranaut (sic)."

According to Ayushmann Khurrana, Andhadhun was the hardest role of his career. The actor reportedly learned to play the piano on his own and did not use a body double. In addition to visiting and studying the Happy Home and School for the Blind to see how blind people behave, he even trained with Rahul, a visually impaired pianist.

Sriram Raghavan's psychological thriller Andhadhun released in cinemas in 2018. Soon after its release, the movie became a huge hit and received praise from critics for its intriguing plot. Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte, and Tabu played the main parts in the movie. The main idea of the movie centred on a pianist who pretended to be blind, but his deception put him in the middle of a murder case. It is still remembered by many for its exciting storyline and powerful performances.

With an exceptional box office run in China, Andhadhun made over $62.4 million (Rs 456 crore) worldwide. The 2018 thriller easily recouped its meagre Rs 32 crore budget, making it one of the most successful Indian movies ever.
