Vishnu Manchu’s anticipated movie Kannappa hit the screens on June 27. The film has received nationwide positive responses and earned over Rs 15 crore in two days. The Telugu movie was released pan-India, which was released in multiple languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, has been helmed by Mukesh Kumar Singh. Vishnu recently opened up about why a Hindi director has directed Kannappa, not a Tollywood filmmaker. The actor stated that no Tollywood director would be willing to work with him, as he believes it is because his past films didn’t perform well. Here is what he said.
At a press event, Vishnu Manchu was asked why he and the team chose a Bollywood filmmaker while the story has deep roots in Telugu culture. Vishnu said, “You (media) very well know that no director from Tollywood would be willing to work with me if I approached them with the Kannappa script.” He addressed his past box office failures and said, “Also, my last few films didn’t perform well. Mukesh Kumar Singh brilliantly handled a show based on an Indian epic. Despite Kannappa being his debut feature film as a director, I entrusted him with the responsibility. He is a hidden gem, and I want to bring such talent to the forefront.” Mukesh Kumar Singh made his film debut with Kannappa. He earlier directed Star Plus adaptation of the Mahabharat.
Nothing is above pure devotion.
