Vivek Agnihotri is one of those filmmakers who have received their fair share of praise and criticism for highlighting sensitive, real and hard-hitting realities of today’s world. With movies like The Kashmir Files, The Tashkent Files, The Vaccine War and others, the famous director has always tried to showcase the deeper aspects of the real world. And now, he has openly defended another director whose movies are often questioned for portraying toxic masculinity and violence.
Vivek Agnihotri recently expressed his point of view on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s way of storytelling and supported him for portraying the harsh truths of modern times. During a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, Vivek talked about Sandeep’s approach and called him his alter ego. He said, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga is more like my alter ego in the industry. Just like me, he speaks fearlessly. People question Sandeep Reddy Vanga for toxic masculinity, but what is really happening in society?”

Talking about the reality in his work, Vivek said, “Isn’t it the truth? Does your society respect women? It is just his storytelling. He is showing the world to the people from his point of view." He also recalled how people trolled Shekar Kpaoor for making Bandit Queens from Phoolan Devi’s point of view. He also recounted the scepticism his movie The Kashmir Files faced during its release.
Further, Vivek Agnihotri mentioned that in his opinion, Sandeep Reddy Vnaga has the right to tell stories from his point of view, just like the way people are using their rights to question him. He added, “But, at the end of the day, he is laughing looking at his bank.” Vivek also highlighted that people are having an issue with Sandeep’s work only because his movies are making numbers. He expressed that if Sandeep’s movies were unsuccessful, nobody would have raised any question.
On the professional front, Vivek Agnihotri is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie The Bengal Files. It is the third instalment in ‘The Files’ trilogy, after the release of The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files. The movie is slated to release on September 5, 2025, with a talented star cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Pallavi Joshi among others.
