Vivek Agnihotri is currently grabbing attention for his recent movie The Bengal Files, which is the third instalment in the Files trilogy. Before this, he had made The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files. Known for making political movies and highlighting the untouched topics of the nation, Vivek Agnihotri actually transformed his choices from making mainstream Bollywood movies. Films like Chocolate, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, Hate Story and Zid were all helmed by the talented director. From making conventional mainstream Bollywood movies to delivering intense cinematic experiences, Vivek has come a long way. 

Vivek Agnihotri’s old movies included popular songs like Halka Halka Sa Ye Sama from the movie Chocolate. Another prominent song which made its place in people’s hearts was Billo Rani from John Abraham starrer movie Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. The director, in a recent interview with Mashable, recalled how he had to convince lyricist Javed Akhtar to retain the term Billo Rani in the track composed by Pritam, and sung by Anand Raj Anand and Richa Sharma.

He shared, “I insisted on keeping the term “Billo Rani” in the song. But Javed sahab wasn’t convinced. Finally, we kept the term ‘Billo Rani’, and he wrote great lyrics for the rest of the song.” This song later on became one of the most hit party songs in the history of the music industry.

Vivek Agnihotri’s contribution in both kinds of cinema has helped him broaden his ideological perspectives. Talking about which, the director shared that he and Javed Akhtar have very different political philosophies. “When it’s between two philosophical minds, there can’t be a debate, only a discussion. I get along really well with Javed sahab. We respect each other deeply. He’s one of the best thinkers we have today in India. Yes, our political ideologies don’t match too much, but otherwise I have deep respect for him in terms of life ideology,” he added.

Vivek Agnihotri’s shift in terms of movie selection has garnered a lot of attention to him. The release of The Bengal Files saw a widespread controversy about the movie’s plot. The director’s other work apart from the Files trilogy also includes The Vaccine War, released in 2023.
