Vivek Agnihotri's upcoming film, The Bengal Files is currently being prepared for the September 5th release. Following The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022), the film is the third and last installment of his contentious Files Trilogy, which also stars his wife, actress Pallavi Joshi. In the midst of all of this, Vivek Agnihotri has recently acknowledged that he has also received death threats related to the Bengal Files affair.
Vivek Agnihotri spoke about receiving death threats in a recent interview. He said, "Yes. I mean, I have a family, a wife, and a child. Of course, I’m worried about the state of affairs. The problem is, we have a history of making socio-political films in this country. Many great filmmakers have made them. But now it has become very difficult to make such films. How many of them actually tell the truth."
Vivek Agnihotri added "You know, we’ve had great films on the freedom struggle, the communal riots, the holocausts in India and abroad. So if I’m reaching into the past to tell a story that even I didn’t know much about, why am I being targeted."

The portrayal of Gopal Patha, who was instrumental in defending Hindus during the 1946 riots, in The Bengal Files is another factor contributing to the film's popularity, even though many people have labeled it a propaganda picture. Even his grandchild has been disappointed. He recently accused Agnihotri of disrespecting Patha in a case he filed against the Bengal Files.
With a strong ensemble that includes Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, and Namoshi Chakraborty, The Bengal Files aims to explore a highly controversial period in contemporary Indian history.
Meanwhile, the filmmaker lambasted Bollywood for failing to take a stand against the Pahalgam terror attack and emphasized that being silent during such times is close to contributing to the large problem in an exclusive conversation with The Daily Jagran. Unlike many in the profession, Agnihotri was spoke with the passion. "Mujhe unke support ki zarurat nahi hai. Hum do alag tarah ke log hai. Jab Pahalgam mein attack huye thhe, Bollywood ke log kuch nahi bole mein toh khulke likhta hoon, bolta hoon uske baarein mein," he said.
Vivek Agnihotri added, "Filmmakers ka kaam kya hai? Hum log koi madari toh hai nahi ki jo bandar ka naach kar rahe hai, entertainment, entertainment, entertainment."
