When Dharmendra's Mother Secretively Met Hema Malini And Blessed Her: 'Khush Raho Humesha'

Hema Malini and late actor Dharmendra's wedding was unusual because he was already married and had four children when he made the decision to remarry. Despite having met Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra's first wife, before her marriage to the superstar, Hema Malini kept her distance from Prakash Kaur. Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, her two daughters, lived alone with her, and Dharmendra frequently paid them visits. However, not every member of Dharmendra's family avoided Hema. When she gave birth to their first daughter, Esha, his mother, Satwant Kaur, visited her.

Hema Malini shared a touching tale of meeting Dharmendra's mother, Satwant Kaur, who visited her at a dubbing studio following the birth of their first daughter, Esha, in her biography, Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl, written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee. She disclosed that Satwant Kaur visited her without telling anyone in the family.

Hema Malini said, "Dharamji's mother Satwant Kaur was equally warm and kind-hearted. I remember how she came to meet me once at a dubbing studio in Juhu after I had conceived Esha. She hadn’t informed anyone in the house. I touched her feet, and she hugged me and said, 'Beta, khush raho hamesha.' I was happy that they were happy with me."

Hema Malini's interaction with Satwant Kaur demonstrates the strength of acceptance as well as affection. They found kindness and empathy in one another despite their struggles of the family arrangement.

In fact, Dharmendra's father, Kewal Kishan Singh Deol, loved Hema Malini just as much as his mother. She reminisced about Kewal's relationship with her father, V.S. Ramanujam Chakravarthy, and how Dharmendra's father used to arm wrestle him. "He would drop by and meet my father or brother for chai. Instead of shaking hands, he would arm-wrestle them, and after defeating them he would jokingly say, 'Tum log ghee-makkhan-lassi khao, idli aur sambhar se taqat nahi aati'. My father would join in the laughter. He (Dharmendra’s father) was a very jovial person."

Hema Malini acknowledged that Dharmendra's living arrangement with his previous family wasn't ideal, even though she said she 'doesn't want to disturb' anyone and avoids his family with his first wife and four children, including Sunny and Bobby Deol.
