Sanjay Dutt Mumbai Blast 1993 Case: One of the most controversial aspects of Sanjay Dutt's life is his connection to the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993. He was ultimately found not guilty of terrorism and conspiracy, but he was convicted under the Arms Act of possessing illicit firearms.
Sanjay Dutt's arrest was one of the most difficult times for his father, Sunil Dutt. In an interview with Desi Studios, former IPS officer Rakesh Maria, who was a part of the probe, recalled the incident.
Sanjay Dutt: 'Papa Galti Hogyi Mere Se'
Sanjay Dutt first told the former IPS officer that he was innocent and had no role in the case. But he said the actor later broke down and admitted his mistake. He requested him not tell his father, Sunil Dutt. Rakesh Maria, however, insisted that he had to know and asked the Munna Bhai MBBS actor to take responsibility for his actions.
Sanjay Dutt could not hold back his emotions when he finally met his father.
"Sanjay Dutt is brought into the room; he sees his father, he howls like a child and goes and falls down at Sunil Dutt's feet and tells him, 'Papa galti ho gayi mere se'. I wouldn’t wish this on any father. Sunil's face went pale," recalling the moment Rakesh Maria said.

'Sanjay Dutt Was Trembling'
Sanjay Dutt's Mumbai blast case was also recalled by prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam during a recent conversation with Lallantop. The prosecutor claimed he faced heavy criticism while handling the actor's trial.
Sanjay Dutt, according to Nikam, appeared nervous during the court proceedings. He said the actor was trembling during the trial.
"When the judgment was delivered, he was trembling. He kept saying, 'No sir, I didn't do anything wrong, sir. I will come back.' He was virtually shaking. I was standing nearby and told him, 'Sanju, the media is watching, please stand straight.' Then I asked the police to take him away. Had I not motivated him at that moment, the media would have made me the villain."
In 2013, the Supreme Court sentenced Sanjay Dutt to five years in prison instead of seven years. After serving time for a crime under the Arms Act, he finished his prison term in 2016. He returned after that and has subsequently worked on several movies.
The actor has acted in several movies, including Aakhri Sawal, Leo the Raja Saab, and K.G.F: Chapter 2.

Sanjay Dutt On 1993 Mumbai Blast Case
Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt reflected on the 1993 case during his recent appearance on The Himanshu Mehta Show in 2025.
Sanjay Dutt shared, "My father was being threatened, my sisters were being threatened. They said I had a gun, but they couldn’t prove it… I don’t know why it took them 25 years to realise that, and then convict me in the Arms Act case without having a gun, without finding a gun."
He said that it shouldn't have taken so long for the authorities to prove he had nothing to do with the bomb blast or TADA.
Sanjay Dutt claimed he made an effort to learn from the experience despite the ambiguity.
