Sridevi was one of the most-versatile actors in the Indian film industry, however, controversies never left her side. The late actress had a fallout with renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli during the making of Baahubali. A few know that not Ramya Krishnan, but Sridevi was the first choice for the role of Sivagami Devi. However, the actress refused to do the role as things did not work out between the director and the actress commercially, according to reports.
The controversy began when Rajamouli mentioned in an interview that Sridevi had made several demands, which led to the role being given to Ramya Krishnan instead. Sridevi later clarified that she had made no such demands and felt Rajamouli's comments were unprofessional. Rajamouli's apology came after Sridevi expressed her hurt and disappointment over his statements.
While promoting Mom, Sridevi was asked to comment on her feud with Rajamouli. According to Odisha TV, she had said, "There are rumours that I asked about Rs 10 crore for the role, including an entire floor in a hotel and 10 flight tickets, etc. I have been in the industry for about 50 years and acted in more than 300 films. Do you think I could have accomplished all of this by making such demands?"
"I saw a Rajamouli interview and I was shocked and hurt by it. I have heard about Rajamouli, he is a calm and dignified person. I have seen his movie Eega and was very happy to work with him. He is a great technician but the way he spoke about the issue made me feel very sad," she went on to state.
Later, SS Rajamouli had expressed regret over publicly discussing Sridevi's alleged demands for the Baahubali series, stating it's a mistake he wishes he could take back. He mentioned that while it's up to the people to decide whose version of the story to believe, he acknowledged that discussing the details publicly was unnecessary. Rajamouli also took the opportunity to wish Sridevi good luck for her film Mom, showing respect for her as a pioneering actress in the Indian film industry.
