Thanks to its star-studded casting and the fact that it's a much-awaited sequel to JP Dutta's 1997 cult classic Border. Whether it's glimpses from shoots or updates about the cast wrapping up their schedules, the film has been generating a lot of anticipation. Now, the makers have roped in actor Medha Rana as the female lead opposite Varun Dhawan. The announcement has sparked even more curiosity, especially since she’s the only lead actress introduced so far. Who Is Border 2 Female Lead Medha Rana?

Medha Rana, born on December 25, 1999, into an army family. Originally hailing from Bengaluru, she grew up in Gurugram. She started her career as a model at age 16, later appearing in several music videos such as Barsaat ‍by Armaan Malik and in ad campaigns for brands like TRESemmé, Cadbury and Lenskart. After transitioning into acting, Medha played the lead role in London Files with Arjun Rampal and Purab Kolhi, which released on Voot in 2022. She also worked in shows like Ishq In The Air, Friday Night Plan and Netflix’s Dancing on the Graves. Now, Border 2 marks her Bollywood debut, a significant milestone in her career. She will play the love interest of Varun Dhawan in the movie.

The Border 2 makers confirmed the news on Tuesday on Instagram, revealing that Medha has been cast as a female lead opposite Varun Dhawan in the film. The post read, "Every story finds its people. We're happy to welcome #MedhaRana to the #Border2 family as the female lead opposite #VarunDhawan. This announcement left fans intrigued, eagerly awaiting the announcement of other female leads.

Varun also welcomed Medha by re-sharing the makers post on his Instagram story and wrote,
"Welcome To The Movies Medha #Border2."

Producer Bhushan Kumar revealed why Medha has been cast for the film, mainly because of her regional dialect and bringing that emotion to the character. Bhushan Kumar said, as quoted by Variety, "It was imperative for us to find someone who could naturally embody the dialect, spirit, and rooted essence of the region. Medha impressed the team not just with her raw talent, but with her effortless command over the regional dialect and her emotional range as an actor."

Sunny Deol will return to his iconic role as an Indian Army soldier, joining him this time are Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh in key roles. The shooting is currently underway, with Sunny, Diljit, and Ahan having wrapped their schedules. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishnan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 23, 2026.
